Position Details

Position Title:

Regional Investigator

About the Role:

The role of Regional Investigator is the key point of expertise in investigations and enforcement within the region. The Investigator is responsible for influencing the process of sanctioning from incident or inspection, through investigations and referral to the Enforcement Review Panel.

Act as the key regional liaison for the conduct of an investigation within the region

The role is critical to EPA operating as both a regulator and influential authority, to the mentoring and development of other EPOs and to the successful delivery of the sanction strategy.  The role also supports the Regions capability and capacity to respond to emergencies and is required to undertake incident      response during business hours. The role requires a high level of  judgement, technical skills, leadership and a commitment to EPA's aim of protecting the environment.


To be Successful in this Role:

  • Successful completion of EPO Authorised Officer Training.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Environmental management, regulation, law and common industry practices, risks and controls
  • Knowledge of investigative technique and preparation of briefs of evidence (desirable)
  • Proven experience in conducting complex investigations involving state-wide operations and investigations involving other agencies
  • Relevant Tertiary qualification and/or experience in a relevant field. In particular completion of investigation course (or suitable equivalent) will be highly desirable
