Position Details

 

The Senior Legal Advisor is responsible for

• Providing legal advice (and interpretation of advice) and commercial services within the division's functions including consumer, competition, commercial, economic regulation and administrative law related to the commission's functions.
• Ensuring that the administration of the commission's functions, policies and procedures both within division and more broadly, are consistent with obligations under the relevant legislative instruments and Government requirements (e.g. FOI, protected disclosures, ESC Act).
• Co-ordinating the use of external legal advisers including management of legal services panel procurements as required and manage within budget. This responsibility will also include the guidance of internal members of the commission on appropriate legal instruction.
• Preparing and maintaining stakeholder related documentation.
• Providing expert advice to stakeholders, and the Government as required
• Assisting in the development of policies, procedures and training programs for staff on relevant commission and VPS policies and legal issues including mentoring and guiding internal legal staff and ensuring they are tending towards best practice.
• Legislative decision making.
