Position Details

What we do

We provide assurance to Parliament and the Victorian community about how effectively public sector agencies are providing services and using public money. We achieve this through an annual program of audits of state and local government public sector entities.

What you'll do

Financial Audit managers are pivotal team leaders. You'll lead a group of other audit professionals, motivating and coaching them to achieve team and individual goals. You'll promote continuous improvement in your audits and the practice, and create opportunities for others to develop. To succeed in your role, you'll:

  • Lead various external financial audits from start to finish, and contribute to financial audit parliamentary reports
  • Contribute to ongoing practice improvements by leading or participating in lessons learned sessions or improvement projects
  • Establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Manage and monitor resources and financial audit processes, ensuring work is delivered to established quality standards, on time and within budget
  • Provide authoritative audit advice to Senior Leadership and external stakeholders
  • Effectively manage audit engagements risks
  • Participate in strategic and annual planning processes

You may also be assigned the role of engagement leader for lower risk audits.

Who you are

You're an approachable, adaptable audit leader with a progressive, solutions-focussed mindset. You're human-centric with a collegial approach balancing accountability and innovation. Your skills and experience include:

  • History of success in managing and delivering external financial audits
  • Advanced working knowledge of Australian Accounting and Auditing Standards and other regulatory requirements
  • Effective diplomatic stakeholder engagement ability with a record of influencing change
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, verbal communication capabilities
  • Ability to identify emerging threats and opportunities to improve services and accountability
  • Excellent communication techniques that enable you to provide clear and accurate advice and convey advanced technical concepts in plain English
  • Sound judgment when responding to trends, issues, risks and opportunities
  • Proactive people management approach

Note that travel around Victoria may be required. 

Qualification Requirements

  • Finance, Accounting or STEM preferably at postgraduate level
  • Full professional membership with CPA, CA or IPA
