Position Details
- Utilise your Prison and Corrective Services expertise to provide support and advice to Corrections Victoria at Western Plains CC
- 5 x Fixed-Term, Full-Time opportunites to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service for 18 months
- Cog2A: $61,620 - $79,131 plus superannuation.
About the Business Unit:
Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.
Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Western Plains has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care.
Western Plains operates with three primary service teams: Workforce and Prison Services, Communities, and Safety and Operational Service which collaboratively deliver comprehensive services for people in our care, safety management, and corporate services. Through its innovative design and service model, Western Plains aims to create a thriving environment conducive to safety and positive behavioural change.
The Vocational Services Team consists of three key portfolios – industries, education and programs. The role of the team is to prepare prisoners for release and to enhance post release employment opportunities through prisoner employment, integrated job training, targeted educational opportunities, personal development programs and activities.
About the Role:
The role of Prison Officer, Recreation reports to the Manager, Vocational Services.
Some of your duties will include:
- Coordinating and supervising a range of recreational activities and programs for prisoners
- Delivering skills development programs to prisoners in conjunction with the Vocational Services Manager
- Maintaining recreation equipment and supplies as required and as per occupational health and safety requirements.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- An understanding of working with vulnerable or disengaged clients is desirable
- Ability to plan, design, implement and evaluate recreation and fitness programs
- Exceptional organisational, communication and leadership skills
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Qualifications/Experience in Health and Fitness would be desirable
- A Cert IV in Workplace Training and Assessment would be highly regarded but not essential
- Knowledge or skills in a field that would assist in hobby/passive recreational activities would be considered.
