About Us

As an institution focused on forensic medicine, we serve the community and the courts. Our statutory responsibilities are to provide independent forensic medical and scientific expertise to the justice system, tissue for transplantation, and to both teach and undertake research that will benefit the community.

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) provides the justice system with the crucial evidence that underpins safe convictions and appropriate acquittals. Our doctors and scientists investigate deaths reported to the Coroner, examine alleged offenders and medically assess and support victims of crime.

The Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria (DTBV) supports patients and their families by providing safe tissues to medical specialists and Victorian hospitals for transplantation and medical research.

Our medical and scientific staff members undertake research that directly contributes to public health and safety and the just working of our legal system. By contributing to the professional development and education of forensic pathologists, physicians, and scientists, we ensure a high standard of forensic medical services for Victoria and provide critical support for our healthcare and justice systems.

About the Role

As the Assistant Forensic Facilities Manager, you will oversee the daily management of contractors and the coordination of repairs, maintenance, and safety protocols. You will work closely with the Forensic Facilities Manager to manage preventative maintenance schedules for HVAC systems, security, automation, and the emergency response systems. This role also supports the Purchasing and Supplies team, ensuring efficient ordering, storage, and distribution of essential goods.

This position includes participation in an on-call roster, including night and weekend shifts, providing an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your commitment and problem-solving skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations, coordinating contractors for repairs and maintenance.
  • Oversee the building automation system and ensure HVAC and emergency power systems are fully functional.
  • Support the security system management, including staff access programming and fault identification.
  • Assist in implementing a preventative maintenance plan and managing capital replacement needs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

Key Qualifications and Attributes

  • Qualified professional in electrical or mechanical plant trades.
  • Extensive experience managing contractors and maintaining medical or scientific facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of security, building management and compliance systems.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and adapt quickly to changes.
  • Proven ability to maintain and develop strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A current Victorian Driver's Licence is required.
