The position of Senior Budget Analyst forms a part of the Portfolio Budget branch of the Financial Management division within the Corporate Services group.

Corporate Services actively supports Ministers and DEDJTR portfolio groups to create the conditions for sustainable economic development and employment growth. The Group works collaboratively to deliver integrated and operational functions across the department, leading the development of governance, people, culture, systems and capability. Corporate Services deliver service excellence through collaboration with DEDJTR partners, stakeholders and clients.

The Senior Budget Analyst provides advanced analysis and advice in all aspects of the portfolio’s budget strategy and reporting and throughout the planning, investment and resourcing cycle. This includes robust reconciliation of data and management of core budget and financial management systems, and analysis of complex financial issues associated with the Department of Economic Development, Transport and Resources (DEDJTR) and its portfolio agencies.

The role supports Ministers, senior management and the Department of Treasury and Finance through financial analysis of the portfolio’s budget position and outlook, and strategies to improve DEDJTR’s financial sustainability and resource allocation. This role is a pivotal part of the team responsible for the development and support of the portfolio’s budget including the preparation of management reporting and operation of the Department’s budgeting and reporting system. The role also supports the delivery of the portfolio’s annual budget submission – forming part of the State budget process – and the associated presentation of key financial information in budget papers and annual reports of portfolio issues.

To be successful in this role you will work effectively as a member of a team, have high level strategic planning skills, and well-developed written communication skills. You will also have advanced financial skills and demonstrated experience in budgeting and financial analysis.
