Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) is a future fire service in Victoria, Australia. From 2020, it will replace the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) as the Melbourne urban firefighting service and absorb the professional brigades of the Country Fire Authority (CFA) on the outskirts of Melbourne and in major regional Victorian towns. The Fire Rescue Victoria, Firefighters' Presumptive Rights Compensation and Fire Services Legislation Amendment (Reform) Bill, was introduced into Parliament on 29 May 2019.

The FRV Commissioner will bring significant executive leadership in a fire services organisation of comparative scale and complexity. The Commissioner will lead the establishment of FRV and implementation of this paramount sector reform through:

  • Promoting collaboration and coordination between fire services agencies to best meet the safety needs of the community.
  • Recognising the importance of maintaining capacity to respond to peaks in demand for fire services within fire services agencies.
  • Recognising and valuing the contribution of volunteer brigades.
  • Recognising that both volunteer firefighters and career firefighters are vital to delivering safe and sustainable fire services.
  • Maintaining the ability of fire services agencies to respond to critical incidents, to prevent and suppress fires and to protect life and property.
