The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) is the independent statutory authority that administers Victoria’s gambling and liquor laws. We are responsible for gambling and liquor licensing and undertake activities to prevent and detect breaches, also informing and educating industry and the general public about regulatory practices and requirements. Position Details

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for candidates who can work within a legislative framework and can demonstrate sound evidence based decision making in order to provide community-wide benefits to Victorians through the regulation of Victoria's gambling and liquor industries.

The opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager Assessment & Determination, the Senior Licensing Officer is responsible for assessing and determining a range of liquor and gambling licence applications.  If you are looking to enhance your existing skills in making decisions within a legislative framework and you enjoy a fast-paced, high volume, team environment, we want to hear from you.

Key responsibilities:

  • Process, assess and/or determine a range of applications that present a medium to high risk of alcohol and/or gambling related harm under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998, Gambling Regulation Act 2003, Casino Control Act 1991, and other relevant legislation in accordance with legislative requirements and the VCGLR's policies.
  • Prepare correspondence to applicants and industry participants on medium to higher risk/complexity applications and issues.
  • Assess, manage, investigate and respond to inquiries and requests for information from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Under direction, prepare written statements of reasons for decisions where required.

To be eligible for this role you need to be:

  • passionate about the role of regulation
  • experienced in making independent, evidence based, decisions within a complex legislative framework
  • committed to accurate record keeping and transparency in decision making, and
  • able to manage a high-volume workload, ensuring priorities are identified and deadlines met.
