About the role:

As a Solutions Architect in the Radio Services team, you will play a critical role in enhancing Victoria Police's communication infrastructure. Your expertise will help design and implement solutions that support vital radio communications across our organization, ensuring our frontline teams have the reliable and cutting-edge tools they need to protect the community. You'll work on projects that drive mission-critical improvements, using your skills to navigate complex challenges in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Radio Services Solutions Architect:

  • Architect Communication Solutions: Lead the end-to-end design and development of resilient, scalable communication solutions within our radio services, ensuring security, dependability, and high performance.
  • Innovate & Implement: Drive the exploration and integration of new technologies within radio services, enabling Victoria Police to better serve the community.
  • Engage Stakeholders: Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to understand and align on operational needs, delivering solutions that meet the high demands of public safety.
  • Champion Agility: Promote agile practices within project teams, guiding adaptive planning and early delivery of value to support responsive operations.
  • Enhance Operational Efficiency: Seek opportunities to streamline processes, improve system performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

The Solutions Architect role exists within Operational Technology and is part of the Frontline Technology Domain. The growth and complexity of radio services including the introduction of newer technologies within the current radio fleet has identified the need to build an enterprise radio services delivery model and technical capability within Victoria Police.

Your role accountabilities will be:

  • Create and maintain solution architecture documents at the appropriate level of detail across the Domain to meet the needs of relevant stakeholders and governance bodies.
  • Prepare, socialise and present solution architecture documents, briefs and reports to comply with delivery governance processes, and product and domain management oversight.
  • Lead the development and implementation of architecture frameworks and product roadmaps within the IT and communication services environment.
  • Develop high level architectures and solution options in response to business initiatives and requirements.
  • Provide architectural governance over the development and implementation of approved solution designs.
  • Lead and facilitate interactions between business leaders, product managers and product owners on the strategic direction of radio services and technology.
  • Develop advanced briefs that provide recommendations, options or solutions on highly complex matters within your Division, Department or the broader organisation.
  • Lead the development of fit for purpose radio network solution architectures that address a specified business problem and fully encompass the architectural concerns of business, information, application, technology and security domains.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Extensive experience working in business, information, solution or technical architecture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of ICT and business stakeholders and bring diverse groups together to achieve shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in solution architecture principles, methodologies, and best practices, with a track record of designing robust and scalable solutions to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated experience at a senior level in the preparation and provision of responsive, clear and concise specialist advice, recommendations and solutions both verbally and in writing through effective research, negotiation and consultation with stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to analyse business requirements, and design tailored solutions that address specific business needs and objectives, while aligning with organisational strategies and standards.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of contemporary ICT technologies, including field mobility, integration, cloud, data and analytics, and legacy technologies.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of information security principles, practices and protocols, in line with Australian Government standards and best practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading network optimisation services and strategies within the ICT environment.
  • Possess a high-level interpersonal acumen including excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to build and maintain strong relationships and a high degree of responsibility, professionalism and courteousness when dealing with stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage, negotiate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions which are which is consistent with organisational requirements, governance framework, best practice and industry standards.
  • Proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively manage stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes for the stakeholder and the Region/Department/Command.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Organisational Values.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Australian Citizenship is a must. PR not sufficient.
  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • VPSG6 salary range $134,593 - $180,115 p.a. plus superannuation.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • This position may require out-of-hours work as indicated in the Position Description relating to after hours service management issues (as attached to the advertisement).
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
