Director & Deputy Counsel - Courts and Prosecution Services

About the role
Reporting to the Executive Director and General Counsel, Legal Services Department, you are responsible for leading and managing the Courts and Prosecutions Services Division.
The Division consists of circa 650 experienced employees, multi-disciplinary teams of lawyers and sworn officers who provide state-wide prosecution services in summary criminal matters and advice and representation across specialist crime areas. The Director position has 4 direct reports, including Superintendents and special counsel, and an executive advisor and is well-supported by strong middle and senior management.
- SES-1 level - Total Remuneration Package range is from $232,790 to $298,488 including superannuation
- Located in Melbourne
About you
- You are a level-headed lawyer with experience (minimum 8 years' pqe) in team management and leadership and the desire to engage at all levels of a very busy and dynamic organisation.
- Strong interpersonal skills are essential. Extensive experience in strategic leadership and expert legal guidance and support is key, as is demonstrated ability to engage effectively and regularly with senior stakeholders in the Magistracy, the OPP and within Victoria Police.
- While experience in criminal prosecutions is preferred, a highly organised lawyer with deep management experience who is capable of encouraging and supporting team members around the State will also be considered.
- You demonstrate tenacity, ethics and flexibility, understand the need for continuous improvement and are committed to the work of Victoria Police and giving back to the Victorian community.
Requirements and relevant information
- The successful candidate must obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen or be able to obtain a Citizenship waiver.
- The preferred candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include reference checks, psychometric assessment, fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
- The successful candidate will be employed pursuant to Victoria Police policies and procedures. All Executive Officer appointments are in accordance with the Public Administration Act 2004 and the Victorian Public Service Executive Employment Handbook. The successful candidate will be required to enter an Executive Officer Contract of Employment for a period of up to five years.
