About Public Transport Victoria (PTV)

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is a statutory authority that acts as a system authority for all public transport and an advocate for public transport users. We are a single contact point for customers wanting information on public transport services, fares, tickets and initiatives. PTV aims to improve public transport in Victoria by ensuring better coordination between modes, facilitating expansions to the network, auditing public transport assets, promoting public transport as an alternative to the car.

About the role

The User Experience Lead will support the functions of the Technical Services branch under the leadership of the Principal Engineer – Stations & Facilities. This may involve:

  • Developing and maintaining core network technical and maintenance requirements in relation to user experience.
  • Planning and co-ordinating activities which ensure compliance to the Public Transport Victoria technical and maintenance requirements.
  • Investigation, analysis and resolution of arising technical and user experience issues.
  • Writing concise yet comprehensive reports.
  • Working with Customer Services, Inclusive Public Transport Unit and Transport for Victoria representatives to ensure appropriate application of user requirements guidelines and processes.

What we're looking for

Essential (must have to be considered for the position)

  • Excellent skills in the provision of expert and authoritative user experience advice including accessibility/inclusive transport, and recommendations, the application of professional guidance and acumen within the field of stations and public transport facilities.
  • An excellent grasp of the challenges facing customers including those with a disability who seek to travel on Victoria's public transport network and the ability to develop strong relationships with community groups and individuals.
  • Well-developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify emerging issues, trends and risks, assimilate potential applications and impacts and the expertise to resolve complex operational and sensitive stakeholder problems with respect to stations and public transport facilities.
  • High level work organisation skills with the capacity to set meaningful priorities within a changing environment, paying particular attention to detail in all undertakings and successfully balance competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills and the capacity to support the development of functional performance specifications and guidance for enhanced user experience outcomes.



  • A tertiary qualification or proven extensive experience in social science, planning, engineering or related field.


  • A thorough understanding of or qualifications in access consulting.
