About Public Transport Victoria (PTV)

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is a statutory authority that acts as a system authority for all public transport and an advocate for public transport users. We are a single contact point for customers wanting information on public transport services, fares, tickets and initiatives. PTV aims to improve public transport in Victoria by ensuring better coordination between modes, facilitating expansions to the network, auditing public transport assets, promoting public transport as an alternative to the car.

About the role

The Spatial Information Coordinator is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the spatial representation of every unique path of travel undertaken by public transport services in Victoria. This includes the management of stop location data, route information, geospatial and timetable information to will be used by PTV, customers and the transport industry. This is achieved through engagement with multiple teams within PTV, bus operators and industry expertise

Essential (must have to be considered for the position)

  • Technically adept with the ability to use complex databases, manipulate electronic data and understand the output of different data formats.
  • Ability to operate database interfaces for customized hardware.
  • Experience and expertise in the use of GIS products.
  • Knowledge of downstream use of data and ability to liaise with users and external parties to ensure correct usage and understanding.
  • Ability to effectively anticipate, plan and manage for changes to the spatial data ensuring processes are following and changes are transitioned smoothly.

 Desirable (will be well suited to the role)

  • Knowledge of the Victorian public transport network including routes, approximate spans and frequencies.
  • Understanding of bus operations and how bus timetable, geospatial and scheduling data reflect bus operations.
