As a senior technician for the Speed Measurement Services you will undertake the physical maintenance of Victoria Police's Speed Detector fleet and assist in the delivery of the related Speed Detector training packages to operational members.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong aptitude in relation to detailed maintenance of electronic equipment and a background in delivering quality training packages. The role reports to the Manager of Speed Measurement Services and reports to the Director of ICT Services.

Your duties will include:

  • The preparation and delivery of training across Victoria in the use of Speed Measurement Equipment (SME) to operational police members.
  • Conduct technical evaluation of new and emerging speed measurement devices.
  • Working as part of a team to deliver a comprehensive service to operational police members.
  • Assist in the maintenance of records on the Speed Measurement Services (SMS) computer database for the SME certification registration, including the recording and retrieving of data associated with SME field training for operational policing members.
  • Working as part of a team, conduct technical evaluation of new speed measurement devices and their applications in an operational policing environment.
  • Liaise with internal and external bodies on traffic management equipment, their certification and testing of new devices.
  • The day-to-day maintenance and repair of a range SME in preparation for certification.
  • Conduct periodical operational certification and maintenance of a range of portable SME.
  • Provide advice regarding traffic management methods and equipment for senior management, Police members and if required, in a court situation.
  • Keep abreast of developments and initiatives in speed measurement and detection equipment.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A certificate level or other approved qualification in electronics or engineering.

 Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • While this position will be based in Collingwood, the position may be required to work at other locations, in accordance with the provisions of the relevant Victoria Public Service Agreement.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with organisational policy, all Victoria Police employees are required to be fully vaccinated (including a booster vaccination) against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical exception. As such your employment with Victoria Police is subject to providing evidence of your vaccination status.
