Position Details

About the role:

The position is located within the Specialist Programs Division of People Development Command; initial duties at the Centre for Crime Investigation.

The Centre for Crime Investigation is responsible for the provision of contemporary training programs, incorporating adult learning principles to a range of members within Victoria Police.  Courses currently include; The Advanced Diploma of Police Investigation (ADPI), SOCIT/VARE Course, Arson Investigation Course, Investigation Management Course, Frontline Development Course and Foundation Training Division programs including Recruits and Taking Charge.   

As a member of Centre for Crime Investigation you will be designing, delivering and assessing contemporary training to a variety of Victoria Police members.  The training includes (but not limited to) the theory and methodology of crime investigation, initial action, crime scene management, investigative interviewing, State and Commonwealth legislation and Victoria Police Policy, Procedure & Practice.  The training will be delivered through a combination of classroom and practical scenario based training.

The successful applicant will be expected to have experience in a law enforcement environment and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills in order to facilitate training in policing while being a key contributor within a dynamic team environment.

Your duties will include:

  • Provide teaching and educational services to members of Victoria Police. 
  • Research, develop and implement innovative learning practices and instructional strategies, including problem based learning and flexible online delivery methods directed to the needs of the participants, Victoria Police.
  • Participate in strategic planning and specialist project activities by contributing to the achievement of strategic objectives through the development of project plans, project completion and implementation of project outcomes.
  • Perform coordination and administration activities for the organising of a course of study, including documentation, reports and record keeping in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Provide support and advice to students of diverse cultures, backgrounds and abilities
  • Implement appropriate learning or support strategies to ensure student safety, health and wellbeing.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Relevant degree or vocational qualification / policing experience relevant to programs delivered by The Centre for Crime Investigation would be highly desirable.
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent is highly desirable or qualify within 12 months.
  • Australian Qualifications Framework Level 5 teaching qualification is highly desirable.
  • Possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for a White Class Driver Authority within three (3) months.
  • The successful candidate may be required to undergo and successfully obtain & maintain a national Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The incumbent will be required to complete the OHS requirements of the organisation, which may include local level training relating to equipment usage and Hazardous Chemicals.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • One part time 0.5FTE, 38 hours per fortnight, position available, days/hours negotiable.
  • Part time salary range, $44,477 - $50,465 p.a. plus superannuation pro rata.
  • Position location, Victoria Police Academy, Glen Waverley.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with the Acting Chief Health Officer's Direction – COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions, you are required to be fully vaccinated and your employment with Victoria Police is subject to proof of vaccination.
