Position Details

The Senior IT Security Risk Analyst role is required to provide specialist security Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to the Information System Security Risk Management (ISSRM) process to enable the ongoing security assessment of Victoria Police systems. The role is expected to identify, assess and manage security risks which are likely to cause business impacts to critical policing functions, such as unauthorised disclosure of information, lack of information integrity and loss of information and system availability when required by frontline members.

The Security, Information and Privacy Division (SIPD) is responsible for the strategic direction, governance of processes, provision of advice, stewardship and promotion of protective and cyber security, privacy, information management and records management.

Your duties will include:

The Senior IT Security Risk Analyst role is responsible for:

  • supporting the ISSRM process by providing specialist security subject matter expertise on ICT projects and business initiatives;
  • providing security assessments, reviews, risk assessments and third-party supplier reviews and requests for security assessments across several security domains;
  • understanding the information sources available as inputs to security assessments;
  • ensuring cyber security controls are commensurate with the threats and risks that the organisation faces;
  • updating and validating control sets used by SIPD based on current best practice, including an annual review of the Victoria Police sub-set of security controls against changes to the ISM and VPDSF controls and internal control changes for Information, Communication and Digital Technology division (ICDT) managed systems;
  • working with SIPD and ICDT to agree and manage the three-year security review cycle of priority systems;
  • working with SIPD and ICDT colleagues to understand new vendors and their solutions to scope the appropriate security review;
  • providing specialist technical and organisational security advice for security risk assessments to produce System Security Plans (SSPs) and System Security Risk Summaries (SSRS) and risk statements;
  • facilitate the appropriate security risk socialisation, endorsement and acceptance with relevant stakeholders and forums, including SIPD, Product Manager and Domain Heads, the Technical Governance Authority (TGA) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT);
  • assist with the management of the Central System Security Risk Register (CSSRR) and provide insights and summaries to SIPD to drive security risk management; and
  • continuous improvement and process efficiency through systematisation.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

·         A tertiary qualification or an industry recognised certification in a relevant discipline such as information and cyber security, technology or business is highly desirable.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • VPS5 salary range $103,920 - $125,735 per annum + super + leave loading.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with the Acting Chief Health Officer's Direction – COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions, you are required to be fully vaccinated (this includes a booster vaccination) and your employment with Victoria Police is subject to proof of vaccination.
