About the role:

The Taskforce Reset Disclosure Team is responsible for coordinating the assessment and production of materials in Court of Appeal proceedings, as well as to individuals potentially affected by the use of Ms Gobbo as a human source. 

Within the Taskforce, the Disclosure Team works closely with our Investigations and Intelligence Team (who locate, assess and compile relevant material) and Human Source Disclosure Team (who review and redact the material for public interest immunity claims).  External to the Taskforce, the Disclosure Team works closely with the VGSO and counsel to finalise the material for disclosure and consider strategic issues associated with disclosure.

We're looking for a thorough, articulate and organised Senior Lawyer to run a number of Court of Appeal matters, navigating issues, including the scope of appropriate disclosure and the appropriate redactions to apply, to ensure matters run as smoothly and as efficiently as possible.

Your duties will include:

  • Managing a number of Court of Appeal matters, including liaising with and instructing solicitors and counsel for the Chief Commissioner and other staff allocated to each matter.
  • Assessing significant volumes of material for relevance and training other staff to assess material.
  • Finalising draft affidavits, submissions and letters.
  • Supervising the work of other team members and building their capability.
  • Liaising with internal teams on both straightforward and more complex tasks and managing relationships.
  • Weekly reporting to management along with ‘as needs' reporting where issues arise.
  • Maintaining comprehensive records of matter status and progress.
  • Effectively prioritising tasks according to wider taskforce priorities and allocating staff accordingly.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in law.
  • Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer.
  • A current Australian practising certificate.
  • Relevant litigation experience – ideally in complex or higher courts, or in relation to relevance or public interest immunity.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, time-management and leadership skills.
  • A positive and proactive approach.
  • The ability to quickly identify vulnerabilities and obstacles, and then create innovative solutions to the obstacles.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in managing and/or training junior staff.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) full time, fixed term (until 31/12/2023) position available
  • This position is located at the Victoria Police Centre. 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
  • In accordance with the Acting Chief Health Officer's Direction – COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions, you are required to be fully vaccinated and your employment with Victoria Police is subject to proof of vaccination.
