Position Details

About the role:

As the successful applicant, you will work as part of a small team of Sworn and Victorian Public Service (VPS) employees in the Centre for Intelligence Practice (CIP), to design and deliver intelligence training programs for intelligence practitioners, police recruits, and other police members.

The work unit is situated within the Specialist Programs Division of the People Development Command. Training is delivered face to face in a classroom environment at the Victoria Police Academy, with some online facilitation.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and key stakeholders, you will be developing and delivering intelligence training to support all ranks across the organisation to build Victoria Police's intelligence capability.

This includes the design and delivery of the nationally recognised qualification, the Diploma of Police Intelligence Practice (DPIP), which is mandatory for all newly appointed Victoria Police Sworn and VPS intelligence practitioners. The DPIP comprises specialised training in the craft of intelligence analysis with a substantive curriculum interwoven with the Practitioner qualities of leadership, professionalism, engagement, decision making, problem solving, communication, adaptability and collaboration.

You will also be responsible for conducting research and engaging with key stakeholders to ensure that CIP curriculum aligns with contemporary intelligence and education best practice.

Your duties will include:

  • Ongoing development and delivery of intelligence training programs to a range of learner cohorts
  • Maintaining knowledge of contemporary education and training methodologies and intelligence practice, through ongoing research, stakeholder engagement and professional development
  • Administration and coordination of training programs.
  • Managing and coordinating the performance of course participants from across Victoria Police
  • Coaching and supporting intelligence staff to engage with training
  • Maintaining awareness of legislative and policy changes that impact intelligence training
  • Developing and maintaining effective and efficient session plans and training strategies
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvements in training programs

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Experience in the practice of tactical and strategic criminal intelligence
  • Experience in the development and/or delivery of formal training or possess transferrable skills
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Highly developed verbal communication and inter-personal skills
  • High level stakeholder engagement and management skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • A proven ability to work effectively in a small team environment

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
  • This position is located at the Victoria Police Academy, 1 Viewmount Road, Glen Waverley.
  • The successful applicant must possess or be able to demonstrate equivalency to the Diploma of Police Intelligence Practice.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
