About the role:

An exciting opportunity is available for an accredited Psychologist to join the Psychological Assessment Team at Victoria Police in an ongoing capacity. Psychologists will form part of the Medical Advisory Unit which is a multidisciplinary unit that provides expert advice and delivery of operational and recruitment services within Victoria Police.

The appointed Psychologists will be required to complete psychological suitability assessments which form a key component of Victoria Police's recruitment of Police Officers, Protective Service Officers, and Police Custody Officers. This includes providing recommendations to the organisation relating to applicant suitability and identified risks.

Psychologists will report directly to the Organisational Psychologist and work closely with registered health practitioners within the Medical Advisory Unit.

Your duties will include:

  • Under the direction and supervision of the Organisational Psychologist, reviewing and interpreting psychometric tests.
  • Conducting psychological suitability interviews. This includes the integration and canvassing of a range of information relevant to the applicant to derive an assessment outcome.
  • Writing reports for stakeholders which provide recommendations regarding psychological suitability.
  • Maintaining selection procedures and standards to ensure they meet ethical and legal standards.
  • Completion of all clinical records as required.
  • Reporting to management on assessment results as required.
  • Ensuring practice is aligned to the APS Code of Ethics.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Full registration (without conditions) as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Experience and highly developed skills in the delivery of psychological interviews and interpreting psychometric tests.
  • Highly developed communication and report writing skills.
  • It is preferable that candidates have experience completing psychological suitability assessments in the context of selection and organisational risk management.
  • Experience working within a large organisational environment is desirable (however is not mandatory).
  • An understanding of mental health presentations.
  • A commitment to ensuring psychological practice aligns to all ethical obligations as a Psychologist as stipulated in the APS Code of Ethics.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Whilst there is availability for a Psychologist to join the team full time, part time requests will be considered. The position is ongoing therefore offering secure employment, provided probation requirements are cleared.
  • For part time positions, the salary plus superannuation will be pro rata.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.

  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
