About us

The Justice Assurance and Review Office (JARO) is a business unit in the Regulation division at the Department of Justice and Regulation (the department). JARO operates as an internal review and assurance function to advise the department's Secretary on the performance of the youth justice and correctional systems; and supports the Community Safety Trustee to provide independent advice to government on the delivery of the Community Safety Statement.

JARO exists separately and independently from the department's Youth Justice division and Corrections Victoria, and acts as an additional line of defence against emerging and enduring risk within both systems.

About the role

A unique executive officer position has arisen for a dynamic, energetic leader interested in being part of the department's executive team.

As the Director, JARO you will report to the Deputy Secretary, Regulation and provide the Secretary with current, objective information on areas of risk and the effectiveness of existing controls across the youth justice and corrections systems.

The Director, JARO is responsible for leading a team of 30 staff, with a focus on timely and concise output, strategically focused reviews to support continuous improvement in the youth justice and corrections systems. Operating within a dynamic setting, this role requires knowledge of the criminal justice system, ability to assess complex information and the capacity to exercise sound judgement, identify risk and take action.

In this role you will work across key areas of the criminal justice system. Your exceptional interpersonal skills will enable you to make impactful relationships with key stakeholders.
