About us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) comprises a large and diverse workforce, with staff based at a variety of locations across Melbourne and regional Victoria. We manage a wide range of portfolios, some of which include Corrections Victoria; Youth Justice; Civil Justice; Emergency Management Victoria; Liquor, Gaming and Racing; and Consumer Affairs Victoria. All of our staff work to the vision of a safe, just, innovative and thriving Victoria.

The Regional Service Network (RSN) is our largest division with approximately 4,000 staff across four regions. The RSN plays a critical role delivering locally managed justice services to Victorians, configuring local resources in a way that most effectively and efficiently meets community needs. It also feeds local intelligence into program and policy development.

About the role

A unique regional opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, energetic leader to take on this Executive Officer (EO3) role, based at Morwell.

As the Regional Director, you will work in close partnership with other government agencies and departments, including Victoria Police, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Education and Training, Community Services Organisations, and Aboriginal Controlled Agencies.

You will also have a representational role and place particular emphasis on priority projects in disadvantaged areas, service integration, community engagement, regional planning and local responses to regional issues.

Reporting to the Executive Director, South Area and South East Metropolitan Region, the services delivered in this region include:

  • Community Correctional Services
  • Offender Behaviour Programs
  • Sheriff's Operations
  • Consumer Affairs Victoria
  • Appropriate Dispute Resolution
  • Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committees
  • Births, Deaths and Marriages
  • Youth Justice Community
  • Victims Assistance and Counselling Program through funds provided by the department to non-government organisations
  • Crime prevention through the establishment of cross government networks, the grants program and locally developed strategies.

Outside of work, this region has a great lifestyle on offer. It is home to the Gippsland Lakes –an ideal place for you, your family and friends to enjoy aquatic adventures, relax on sandy beaches or explore the inland waterfalls. Gippsland is also home to the Gourmet Food Trail, with cheese factories, wineries, berry farms and other artisan foods to enjoy.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have significant experience leading complex service delivery operations. You will be collaborative and inclusive with an ability to think and act strategically, whilst managing day-to-day demands. These skills will allow you to integrate and embed service improvements at a system level to deliver results.
