The Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner (VLSB+C) is the regulator of the legal profession in Victoria.  Our goal is to maintain and enhance public trust and confidence in the legal profession in Victoria.  We do this because the integrity of the legal profession is fundamental to the legitimacy of the justice system and the maintenance and protection of the rule of law.  The VLSB+C employs approximately 80 staff and provides a professional and friendly workplace with a culture that focuses on supporting employees' learning, development and wellbeing. 

The Senior Investigations Officer – Criminal Prosecutions position is a unique and rewarding role.  It presents the opportunity to undertake interesting and varied investigations work, to be a valued member of a highly motivated team and to make a meaningful contribution to the regulation of the legal profession in Victoria. The position is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of summary and indictable criminal offences committed against legislation administered by the VLSB+C.  The position is responsible for managing a variety of different complex matters, principally the investigation, preparation and management of fraud-related indictable matters up to committal.

The Senior Investigations Officer – Criminal Prosecutions will provide an impartial service, ensuring all stakeholders have the highest level of confidence in the operation of the regulatory and complaints system.

We are looking for an individual who is experienced in criminal law as either a legal practitioner or investigator.  Along with your experience, you will also demonstrate:

  • A proven ability to independently manage a varied workload of complex cases;
  • Superior written, analytical and organisational skills and sound attention to detail;
  • Stakeholder management and strong communication skills;
  • A desire to contribute to a high functioning and diverse team; and
  • A passion for the efficient investigating of criminal conduct.

In this role you will

  • Conduct investigations into complex matters and handle a varied case load including investigating cases of serious fraud associated with law practices, as well as investigating summary offences;
    • Liaise with witnesses, lawyers and government agencies as required and prepare briefs of evidence;
    • Prepare briefs of evidence in relation to relevant criminal offending; and
    • Contribute to the effective running of the Team through enhancing processes and procedures.
