The position of Senior Accountant is located in the VLSB+C Finance and Investment team. The Finance and Investment team is part of the Finance, Risk and Policy group. The group’s responsibilities cover, financial management, budgeting, accounting, investment management, risk management, strategic planning, policy development, and grants administration. The incumbent will have exposure to the Board, senior management, most aspects of finance and also close involvement with managing a $0.8bn investment portfolio. The position is responsible for assisting the Manager, Finance and Investment in the provision of financial management, management accounting and investment management services.

Position Details

In undertaking the role the Senior Accountant will work closely with internal staff and will have regular contact with the Departments of Treasury and Finance and Justice, Auditors, Actuaries, investment advisors, Banks and legal profession associations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare the operating and capital expenditure budgets for the VLSB+C for presentation to the Finance and Investment Committee and Board.
  2. Monitor income and expenditure against budget, prepare variance analysis, and assist operational managers in managing to budget. 
  3. Prepare and deliver reporting requirements of the Department of Treasury and Finance.
  4. Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheet, Cash flow statement, and in finalising the annual statutory financial statements.
  5. Assist with the analysis, monitoring and reporting of VLSB+C investment performance and administration of the investment portfolio.
  6. Any other finance related work and projects including systems related projects.
