About us:

The Children's Court of Victoria (ChCV) has jurisdiction under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 to hear cases involving children and young people up to the age of 18 years, and in some cases up to 19 years. It has a Family Division and a Criminal Division and it sits at locations throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

About the role:

The Family Violence Registrar plays a critical role in coordinating the daily operational response to family violence across all divisions of the ChCV and oversees referrals to the Court's dedicated Family Violence Practitioners.

The Family Violence Registrar contributes to the Court's response to family violence, working alongside the judiciary, court registrars, support workers, police, legal services and other support services to effectively manage cases involving individuals experiencing and using family violence.

The position builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders and works closely with the Family Violence Registrars in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria to promote consistency in practice across both jurisdictions and provides a point of specialist contact to registrars at metropolitan and regional courts in relation to managing ChCV family violence intervention order proceedings.

About you:

As a Registrar of the Court the successful candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of legislation, practices, policies and procedures applicable to Victorian Courts and Tribunals, and the ChCV in particular.

The role forms part of the ChCV's Management Group and reports to the Court's Operations Leadership Team and, as such, the position requires someone with excellent communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

As the ChCV's dedicated Family Violence Registrar, the successful candidate must possess an excellent understanding of the nature and dynamics of family violence and the operation of the family violence jurisdiction within the ChCV.
