About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.
Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's own strategic priorities while also pursuing strategic opportunities that are interconnected and deliver benefits more broadly.
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
Are you passionate about reducing family violence and improving safety outcomes for women and children? The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is seeking a dedicated Family Violence Respondent Practitioner (FVRP) to be part of our specialist family violence team.
This is a unique opportunity to support behaviour change, reduce risk, and contribute to a safer community through early intervention and strong accountability frameworks.
As an FVRP, you will work directly with respondents to family violence proceedings, providing assessments, information, and referrals to programs and support services. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team including the Family Violence Registrar (FVR) and Family Violence Applicant Practitioner (FVAP), and collaborate closely with police prosecutors, lawyers, court registrars, and community support agencies.
Your work will help ensure safety for affected family members while holding respondents accountable for their behaviour. This is a public-facing role requiring regular attendance at Court.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct MARAM‑aligned risk assessments and facilitate referrals to behaviour change, case management, and support programs.
- Provide information to Magistrates about respondents, risk factors, and available services.
- Explain court processes, legal requirements, and key family violence concepts to respondents and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring compliance with information-sharing legislation.
- Build strong working relationships with community service organisations for effective referral pathways.
- Prepare reports, update case management systems, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide support across satellite and headquarter courts as required.
- Deliver family violence-related education to internal and external stakeholders.
Our benefits
- We care about your health and wellbeing and have partnered with Fitness Passport, an initiative that allows you to access significantly discounted fitness membership program
- Peer Support Program designed to help create a safe and supportive workplace where colleagues look out for each other
- Koori staff network to enhance support for Koori staff and ensure that appropriate networks and services are readily available
- Ongoing professional development within a collaborative and supportive work environment
About you
- You will bring a strong understanding of family violence dynamics.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, social sciences, criminal justice, or other related field are highly desirable, in addition to demonstrated strong experience working with people who have perpetrated family violence.
- Experience conducting MARAM-aligned risk assessments and safety planning.
- Skills in crisis response, case coordination, and client support.
- Knowledge of homelessness, AOD, mental health, legal and financial issues (desirable).
- Strong communication skills
