About us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
The Senior Registrar will play a pivotal leadership role in the set up and commencement of operations across the Hume Region. Working collaboratively with the Regional Coordinating Magistrate, the Principal Advisor, Court Operations, and key leaders from Court Operations and Court Practices and Services, the Senior Registrar will play a pivotal role in initiating, building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships, providing high level authoritative advice to the Court's Executive including the Chief Magistrate, key judicial officers and Chief Executive Officer. The Senior Registrar will also participate and contribute to the Court's strategic planning and direction.
A major focus of the role will be to lead and manage a team of registry and court services staff in a complex judicial environment with competing demands whilst ensuring that functions and services are appropriately resourced and delivered in line with the Court's business objectives. The Senior Registrar will also play a key role ensuring a culturally safe and inclusive workplace and will be required to maintain currency of Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training, and capability in managing and supporting Aboriginal staff.
Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and monitoring security requirements of the court buildings and facilities and the management of their budget and finances. The security requirements of this role necessitate the requirement of an after-hours on-call component for which the incumbent is recompensed.
This role will also require remote supervision of staff and regular travel to multiple court locations.

About You
You will possess leadership qualities or management experience in a complex and multidisciplinary team environment or similar. Your other strengths will include:
• Demonstrated expert knowledge of Victorian Courts and Tribunals
• Demonstrates extensive knowledge of legislation, practices, policies and procedures applicable to Victorian Courts and Tribunals.
• Certificate in Court Services or equivalent (desirable)
• highly effective communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective team player
• Strong commitment to delivering quality services
