About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.
Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's own strategic priorities while also pursuing strategic opportunities that are interconnected and deliver benefits more broadly.
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year. MCV aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role
Join the Magistrates' Court of Victoria as a Registrar and play a vital role in delivering fair, efficient, and accessible justice to the community. This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, exercises sound judgement, and is committed to public service excellence.
Registrars of the Magistrates' Court perform a wide range of administrative tasks throughout the Court's registries in Victoria. These may include in-court (bench clerk) duties, client-contact (telephone and counter) enquiries, and back-of-office administrative responsibilities.
Registrars are also required to exercise powers conferred under the Magistrates' Court Act 1989, other Acts and Rules. These powers involve the preparation and processing of administrative and statutory documentation and the exercise of discretionary quasi-judicial and statutory powers using professional judgement in applying legislative requirements, established rules and precedents, and the Court's Practice Directions.
Registrars are required to liaise with several stakeholders including the judiciary, Victoria Police, Office of Public Prosecutions, legal practitioners, various court user groups as well as members of the public.
Join a dynamic regional court environment in East Gippsland, where stunning coastlines meet mountain landscapes and your work delivers meaningful impact to local communities.
