Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
The Family Violence Applicant Practitioner (FVAP) plays a critical role in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria's response to family violence. Working as part of a dedicated team alongside the Family Violence Registrar (FVR) and Family Violence Respondent Practitioner (FVRP), this position is focused on enhancing the safety of women and children attending court and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable.
The FVAP provides non-legal information and support to individuals experiencing family violence, conducts immediate risk assessments, develops safety plans, and facilitates referrals to community-based services for ongoing support and longer-term safety planning. This role requires strong collaboration with internal court stakeholders, external agencies, and community services to deliver high-quality outcomes for victim survivors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans for clients experiencing family violence.
- Provide information and referrals to appropriate support services, including housing, counselling, and case management.
- Consider the needs of children in all assessments and liaise with child protection services where appropriate.
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including legal services, police prosecutors, and community agencies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, ensuring compliance with privacy and information-sharing requirements.
- Prepare reports and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the family violence jurisdiction.
- Participate in professional development, peer support, and education activities as required.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting individuals impacted by family violence, with advanced skills in client engagement and comprehensive risk assessment.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, social sciences, or a related field are highly desirable, along with substantial experience within the family violence service system.
- Strong organisational skills and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes under pressure.
