Position Details

This After Hours service is responsible for the processing and issuing of search warrants and other applications made to the Magistrates' Court after hours ,including family violence, personal safety and child pro. This After Hours service is responsible for the processing and issuing of search warrants and other applications made to the Magistrates' Court after hourstection matters. The unit offers services outside of normal work hours between the hours of 5pm and 9am weekdays, and 24 hours on weekends.

It is important to note that the number of persons working on the rotating shifts at night will vary from one to two depending on demand and during the day shift will form part of the Melbourne Magistrates' Court Registry team. After-hours Registrars are required to exercise powers conferred to registrars under the Magistrates' Court Act 1989. These powers involve the preparation and processing of administrative and statutory documentation.

The registrar may also exercise professional judgement in applying quasi-judicial and statutory powers in accordance with legislative requirements, established rules and precedents, and the Court's Practice Directions.The position operates within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement, liaise effectively with the Judiciary, senior officers of the courts and government departments and build relationships with key stakeholders.
