The Family Violence Respondent Practitioner forms part of a team within the family violence jurisdiction of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, comprising of the Family Violence Registrar and Family Violence Applicant Practitioner. The role of this team is to enhance the safety of women and children who attend at Court experiencing family violence, and hold perpetrators of family violence accountable for their actions.
The Family Violence Respondent Practitioner will provide non-legal information, support and referral for people who are respondents to an application for an intervention order or involved in criminal proceedings arising from or including allegations of family violence. They will conduct assessments and make appropriate referrals to a range of support services and into programs.
The Respondent Practitioner position at Moorabbin Magistrates Court forms part of the Family Violence Counselling Orders Program, this program has the ability to create Family Violence Counselling orders requiring respondents to engage in a Men’s Behaviour Change Program.
