Position Details

  • Provide authoritative and high-level legal advice and opinions on complex and cross discipline matters to the judicial officers and senior court administrators of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria.
  • Fixed term – VPS Grade 5.2 position located at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

 

  • Provide legal research and opinions to the Chief Magistrate, senior court administrators and the wide magistracy of the court.
  • Deliver legal advice and opinions that provide options for discussion and consideration by court committees and working groups.
  • Work within a varied and dynamic legal environment.

About us

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.

The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

About the role

The Court Legal Advisor (CLA) provides legal advice and opinions to the judiciary and senior court administrators in a diverse legal environment. The CLA works closely with the Chief Magistrate, Deputy Chief Magistrates, Supervising Magistrates and the wider Magistracy in the provision of authoritative and specialist legal research, analysis, advice and opinions. The duties of the role are performed under limited direction and without immediate supervision.

About you

  • Admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer or eligible to hold a Victorian practising certificate.
  • Post division experience in both civil and criminal law.
