Position Details

As part of the Victorian Government's continued support, the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is delivering a pilot to test the effectiveness of EPA officers embedded in local government.

The EPA has several exciting opportunities for self-motivated individuals to contribute to the OPLE pilot program. Employed by, and representing the EPA, this unique position will be locally embedded within councils in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Melbourne. There are a number of positions available across Metropolitan Melbourne, with specific host councils to be determined prior to interviews being finalised.

These roles add to an existing group of 12 OPLE's based at local councils across the state. The OPLEs will work closely with the EPA and their council to respond to smaller scale pollution reports relating to waste, noise, dust, litter, water and odour arising from smaller business and industry in the council area. The roles also require proactive engagement to support community and business to understand their environmental obligations.

What you need:

  • Ability to undertake regulatory activities associated with the role,
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental management, regulation and/or relevant experience in industry;
  • Demonstrated management and knowledge of some industry practices, risks and controls;
  • Strong face to face customer service experience;
  • Develop effective working relationships within the host council/s;
  • Ability to conduct proactive inspections of premises to support compliance and work autonomously;
  • Demonstrated experience working with a number of different stakeholder groups.
