About the role:

This critical role is responsible for the integrity and delivery of audiovisual evidence within the Victorian justice system. The successful candidate will ensure that evidence is converted, edited, and presented in strict accordance with court requirements, providing a seamless technical interface between the legal practice and the judiciary.

Key Responsibilities

The AV Officer balances technical precision with the sensitive nature of legal proceedings. Primary accountabilities include:

  • Evidence Management: Identifying, ingesting, and editing audiovisual evidence using non-linear systems (Avid Media Composer) to ensure compatibility for court delivery.
  • Systems Advocacy & Training: Providing expert guidance and training on the Electronic Jury Book system to prosecution, defence, and judicial staff to enhance courtroom presentations.
  • Technical Support: Assisting the AV Technical Specialist in the maintenance and configuration of OPP-AV computing systems, including hardware, networks, and Cisco Video Conferencing facilities.
  • Internal Production Delivery: Assisting in coordinating the filming and deployment of AV productions across various office and court locations, including occasional travel to regional Victoria.
  • Strategic Improvement: Maintaining accurate data within the AV database and proactively identifying opportunities for process and workflow enhancements.

Selection Criteria

We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates a sophisticated blend of technical expertise and professional maturity:

  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience with Avid Media Composer, Avid Interplay, Adobe Photoshop, and Rimage automated publishing systems. As well as knowledge and experience in the operation of Broadcast professional camera's and lighting equipment.

Communication & Liaison: Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to provide authoritative technical advice to senior management, prosecutors, and court officials.

  • Resilience & Integrity: The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
  • Trauma Informed Approach: This role involves exposure to graphic material, including images and videos of violence and abuse. The incumbent must demonstrate the professional sensitivity and sound judgment required to manage such exposure.
