About the role:

The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is seeking a driven Solicitor (VPS4) to join our specialised Proceeds of Crime workgroup. In this role, you will manage a dynamic caseload focused on statutory confiscation litigation under the Confiscation Act 1997.

Working under supervision, you will regularly appear in the County Court of Victoria (Confiscation List) for restraining orders and pre-trial applications, conduct legal research and analysis, negotiate early case resolutions, and instruct Counsel in complex matters.

You will:

• Prepare and conduct Confiscation Act 1997 litigation and appear routinely in the County Court Confiscation List for restraining orders and pre-trial proceedings.
• Manage a high-volume litigation caseload, maintaining strict compliance with timeframes and court deadlines.
• Conduct complex legal research and analysis to provide concise advice and recommendations to the Proceeds of Crime Managers and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
• Prepare court documents, brief and instruct Counsel in complex hearings, and facilitate the early, appropriate resolution of matters.
• Build effective working relationships with Crown Prosecutors, police, defence counsel, and internal OPP teams.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Sound knowledge of civil rules, civil procedure, and criminal law, with familiarity in statutory confiscation proceedings (Confiscation Act 1997 or similar).
• Demonstrated experience or competence appearing as a solicitor advocate in court (County Court preferred).
• High-level legal drafting skills and the ability to synthesize complex legal issues into concise advisory memos.
• The ability to manage competing priorities, maintain high attention to detail, and deliver quality work under tight time constraints.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to working effectively within a supportive team environment.
