Seasonal Clerk

A Seasonal Clerkship at the Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) provides you with an excellent introduction to the Criminal Justice System. During your three week placement, you will have exposure to prosecutions in a courtroom setting and gain insight into the operations of the OPP. The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system.

Position Details

 Seasonal Clerkship Program 2020

Paid placement based on VPS Grade 1 salary of $47,904 per annum.

We are offering a three week placement from Monday 29 June 2020 to Friday 17 July 2020.

  • Are you interested in learning more about criminal law and the Office of Public of Public Prosecutions' (OPP) contribution to the fair and effective operation of the Criminal Justice System?
  • If this sounds like you, then you should consider a Seasonal Clerkship with the OPP.



The OPP's Seasonal Clerkship Program is being offered in accordance with the LIV Seasonal Clerkship and Traineeship Guidelines 2019, to students who are in their final or penultimate year of study; that is they intend to commence their final semester in 2020. 

Priority offers will be made to eligible participants of the Seasonal Clerkship Program 2020 to join the OPP's Legal Traineeship Program in 2021.

The OPP is committed to increasing employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and will be allocating at least one Legal Traineeship in 2021 to a candidate who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

  • a covering letter, addressed to the “OPP Recruitment team”
    • a copy of your academic record (official or unofficial)
  • a resume (including 2 telephone referees)
  • a completed application form containing your responses to the questionnaire which can be found on the last page of the application screen.

To be eligible for consideration, all applicants must be available to attend an assessment centre between Friday 6 September 2019 to Tuesday 17 September 2019 and interviews between Monday 30 September 2019 and Friday 4 October 2019.

If you are invited to attend an assessment centre, you will be required to bring photo identification.
