A Seasonal Clerkship at the Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) provides you with an excellent introduction to the Criminal Justice System. During your three week placement, you will have exposure to various aspects of criminal law, including prosecutions, county court appeals, higher court appeals, policy and advocacy to gain insight into the operations of the OPP.

Position Details

Seasonal Clerkship Program 2023

Paid placement based on VPS Grade 1 salary of $51,353 per annum.

We are offering a three-week placement from Monday 26 June 2023 to Friday 14 July 2023.

  • Are you in your final or penultimate year of a recognised law degree?
  • Are you interested in learning more about criminal law and the Office of Public of Public Prosecutions' (OPP) contribution to the fair and effective operation of the Criminal Justice System?
  • If this sounds like you, then you should consider a Seasonal Clerkship with the OPP.

Please Note:

The OPP's Seasonal Clerkship Program is being offered in accordance with the LIV Seasonal Clerkship Guidelines 2022, to students who are in their final or penultimate year of study; that is, they intend to commence their final semester in 2023. 

Priority offers will be made to eligible participants of the Seasonal Clerkship Program 2023 to join the OPP's Legal Traineeship Program in 2024.

The OPP is committed to increasing employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and will be allocating at least one Seasonal Clerkship 2023 and one Legal Traineeship in 2024 to a candidate who identifies as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

  • a resume
  • a completed application form containing your responses to the questionnaire which can be found on the last page of the application screen
  • a copy of your current academic record (official or unofficial)

To be eligible for consideration, all applicants must be available to attend an assessment centre between Wednesday 7 September 2022 to Friday 16 September 2022 and interviews between Wednesday 28 September and Friday 7 October 2022.
