Position Details

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) is seeking an experienced and technically savvy plumber to join our Services Team. This role is responsible for providing expert technical advice to internal and external stakeholders of the VBA.  

This position will be responsible for reviewing a range of technical complaints, managing high risk and complex cases, attending site where required and compiling detailed and accurate reports.

Key to the success of this position is the ability to think and act fast to determine best practice issue resolution, contribute to strategic initiatives to educate and change practitioner behaviour as well as provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.



  • Provide accurate, timely and expert technical advice to the Complaints Team.
  • Manage complex matters, undertake inspections, and communicate effectively with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Drive initiatives to change practitioner behaviour and address systemic issues.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in legislation and influence change.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in the efficient and effective management of complaints.


Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge and experience in plumbing design and/or installation practices with a plumbing, engineering or construction organisation.
  • Experience in working within a legislative or regulatory environment and/or in a relevant industry profession is highly desirable.
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of the Victorian plumbing regulatory framework contained in the Building Act 1993, Plumbing Regulations 2008 and the Plumbing Code of Australia, or the capacity to quickly attain this knowledge.
  • Ability to identify and drive strategic initiatives to educate stakeholders and change behaviour, including utilising and analysing data to develop appropriate approaches.
