Position Details

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) is experiencing a time of significant growth to meet the demands of exciting projects, such as the Victorian Statewide Cladding and Swimming Pool audit programs. We are also transforming the way we work through a refreshed focus on customer experience and technology.

The Inspection Services Unit (the Unit) is responsible for conducting proactive building inspections, regulatory field monitoring, building rectification activity and the provision of technical advisory services to internal stakeholders.

You will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of enhanced inspection activity in both the domestic and commercial sectors. Your extensive technical skills and experience will be a valuable addition to the Unit as you conduct proactive inspections on building projects under construction, liaise with relevant practitioners to ensure compliance with legislation and contribute to delivering the VBA's monitoring and enforcement objectives across Victoria.

Substantial mandatory inspection experience in all areas of construction will be highly regarded.

A registration as a Building Inspector Limited, or Unlimited, is essential to be successful in this role.

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:

  • qualifications in building surveying or another relevant technical field;
  • extensive knowledge of the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations and National Construction Code;
  • demonstrated experience in conducting site inspections; and
  • current registration as a building inspector – Limited or Unlimited.

Salary Details

A base salary in the Grade 5 range of $96,942 to $117,293 per annum (plus 9.5% super), will be negotiated with the successful candidate, depending on their skills and experience.
