Position Details

Principal Privacy Advisor & Conciliator – Fixed term to 30 June 2026, full time, flexible position

$106,534 - $117,716 plus superannuation

 

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual to join the Privacy Guidance and Dispute Resolution team at OVIC helping Victorians exercise their privacy rights, and assist regulated organisations comply with privacy legislation.

 

In this role, you will:

  • conciliate privacy complaints between individuals and regulated organisations, including settlements of financial compensation;
  • provide guidance to regulated organisations and members of the public on matters of privacy law and practice, including data breaches; and
  • develop resources and guidance materials for members of the public and regulated organisations.

 

What does OVIC's Privacy Guidance and Dispute Resolution team do?

The Privacy Guidance and Dispute Resolution team is responsible for handling all aspects of OVIC's privacy obligations under Part 3 of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic) (PDP Act).

 

We engage with the community, and regulated organisations, through the provision of tailored privacy guidance that interprets and applies the 10 Information Privacy Principles to the unique circumstances of the individual, or organisation. This includes enquiries about new projects and processes such as artificial intelligence, responding to incidents and cyber-attacks involving personal information and enquiries or complaints about how regulated organisations collect, handle, use, disclose and protect personal information.

 

What will this role involve?

As a senior member of the Privacy Guidance and Dispute Resolution team, the Principal Privacy Advisor & Conciliator will:

  • provide support to the Assistant Commissioner, Privacy Guidance and Dispute Resolution, including team coordination duties during periods of leave;
  • handle complex privacy complaints, enquiries and incidents, and work with a higher degree of autonomy;
  • provide guidance and support to colleagues, including quality assurance of work tasks;
  • proactively identify areas for improvement to the team's processes and resources;
  • identify trends and areas where guidance materials would assist regulated agencies and the public, and coordinate the development of such materials;
  • coordinate team projects, and collaborate with other OVIC business units on whole-of-office initiatives; and
  • coordinate stakeholder engagement activities with, or in place of, the Assistant Commissioner – Privacy Guidance and Dispute Resolution.
