About us

What you'll do

Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting Advisory, you will:

  • Use your strong knowledge of accounting standards and other financial reporting requirements impacting the public sector to advise key stakeholders
  • Play a key role in the design and implementation of quality control systems and technologies in our financial reporting advisory space.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to identify and drive continuous improvement in our external audit practice regarding financial reporting matters
  • Provide expert, up to date technical advice to the audit staff to support the delivery of quality audits within relevant timeframes
  • Develop and present learning and development outputs and training sessions to financial audit staff
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant key trends and emerging issues impacting financial reporting in the public sector
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans
  • Represent VAGO at external seminars and events related to your field.

About you

You are a driven, pro-active leader who can demonstrate technical expertise of the most recent accounting standards, legislation and regulatory frameworks relevant to the public sector. You also:

  • Possess practical experience in delivering a consulting and advisory function, employing professional skepticism while reasoning through problems in the financial reporting space
  • Have a track record of practically presenting concepts and highly technical information in a manner that is readily understood by non-experts
  • Possess a strong aptitude for learning about new tools and techniques and actively seek out opportunities to improve your knowledge
  • Hold a tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Arts, Law or a related field, preferably at the post graduate level.

You will also need to hold full professional membership with CPA Australia or CAANZ or the IPA as specified in the position description. Extensive practical experience in the application of accounting standards advisory, and development of accounting training and learning materials will be required.
