About us:

Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is a Victorian government statutory authority and energy safety regulator, responsible for ensuring electricity, gas and pipeline safety for all Victorians. This is achieved through safety systems which audit and monitor the design, construction and maintenance of all electricity and gas networks and installations and by ensuring that appliances and equipment meet safety and energy efficiency standards before they are sold.

In addition, comprehensive public awareness campaigns are undertaken to educate the community on the potential dangers of gas and electricity.

The Director of Energy Safety for Victoria is appointed by the Governor in Council under the Energy Safe Victoria Act 2005 and is responsible to the Minister and the Victorian Parliament for the safe generation, supply and use of electricity, supply and use of gas and the safe operation of pipelines in Victoria.

About the role:

  • Perform all works associated with asset inspection in a timely and safe manner to ensure delivery of cyclic inspection programs of Victoria's electricity transmission and distribution networks.
  • Maintain close relationships and operational interfaces with businesses and authorities that have the responsibility to comply with electricity safety legislation, to promote ESV and its objectives
  • Participate in the development, implementation and maintaining of systems, processes and procedures, and effective data management to enable ESV to test and challenge the effectiveness and sustainability of MEC systems, practices and controls
  • Participate in the development, documentation and continuous improvement of an ESV position on the appropriateness of MEC asset management strategies, risk management practices and controls
  • Represent ESV at industry forums, such as trade events or conferences to promote ESV electricity safety initiatives and its broader objectives as required
  • Ensure professional, polite, respectful and considerate customer relations when in the field, displaying the ESV core values at all times
  • Provide a level of authoritative technical advice and expertise on asset inspection practices
  • Work with the ESV legal department and contribute to the development of regulations and legislation
  • Ensure ESV equipment including vehicles and tools are maintained in a clean, well maintained and generally good working order
  • Liaise with and provide assistance to other services such as WorkSafe, MFB, CFA, the Energy and other regulators
  • Other relevant duties as required.

About you:

  • Hold a Certificate II in ESI - Asset Inspection (UET20612)
  • Strong and up-to-date technical knowledge gained from substantial asset inspection experience in the areas of electricity distribution and transmission.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously, be self-motivated and skilled at managing and prioritising own workload.
  • The aptitude for working effectively with others, taking direction and to contributing to a team of electricity risk management professionals dedicated to improving safety
  • Sound written, oral and electronic communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, present to industry or act as a subject matter expert for ESV.
  • Communication, advocacy and dispute resolution skills that foster effective relationships and the ability to keep internal and external stakeholders appropriately informed on electricity safety matters
  • Ability to take a strong ethical stand and protect against conflicts of interest
