About us:

Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is a Victorian government statutory authority and energy safety regulator, responsible for ensuring electricity, gas and pipeline safety for all Victorians. This is achieved through safety systems that audit and monitor the design, construction and maintenance of all electricity and gas networks and installations and by ensuring that appliances and equipment meet safety and energy efficiency standards before they are sold. In addition, comprehensive public awareness campaigns are undertaken to educate the community on the potential dangers of gas and electricity.

About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Compliance Officer, Renewable Energy (RE) the Compliance Officer role is to ensure RE industry compliance to enable ESV to strategically monitor and audit, ‘educate and encourage', and ‘enforce compliance ‘within the RE industry.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Respond to complaints from the trade and the general public in relation to the RE industry potential breaches of the Act, pursuant regulations, Australian standards.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of systems, processes and procedures to improve RE compliance.
  • Develop and implement relevant education for internal and external stakeholders on RE compliance requirements.
  • Monitor, audit and assess for compliance with the regulations, Australian standards and certificate of electrical safety requirements.
  • Assess and peer review on reports regarding audits and inspections of RE installations
  • Participate in the ESV availability roster and carry out availability duties as required.
  • Write reports of actions undertaken in relation to complaints, events and investigations including the preparation of direction letters, briefs of evidence, Coroner's courts attendance and written requests for information.  
  • Receive, analyse and make recommendations on applications for exemption to the Electricity Safety (Installations) Regulations and Australian Standards as necessary.
  • Update ESV database and workflow systems as required in a timely manner.
  • Represent ESV as a technical specialist on Australian standards committees.

About you:

  • Current electrician's licence in the State of Victoria or equivalent.
  • Broad range of electrical industry knowledge and experience covering the areas of photovoltaic and battery system design, installation, inspection and auditing.
  • Strong and up-to-date technical knowledge of relevant electrical legislation, regulations and safety standards.
  • Personal resilience to attend serious injury and fatality incident scenes.
  • Experience in auditing systems and processes to ensure compliance.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal with complaints made by the public.
  • Ability to operate independently, self-motivated, manage and prioritise their own complex workload, as well as ability to work effectively as part of a team of technical specialists.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills, ability to lead, provide advice and guidance to resolve issues and introduce improvement.
  • Ability to take a strong ethical stand and protect against conflicts of interest.
