About us:

Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is the leading Victorian Government Statutory Authority responsible for the safety and technical regulation of electricity, gas and pipelines for all Victorians. ESV is broadening our capabilities in regulatory compliance, improving safety outcomes and auditing and review of Voluntary Electricity Safety Management Schemes (VESMS), High Voltage (HV) and Complex installations (High Energy).

About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Compliance Officer, High Energy you will work in a small team of compliance officers to ensure compliance to enable ESV to strategically monitor and audit, ‘educate and encourage' and ‘enforce compliance' within the High Energy industry.

 Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Reviewing VESMS applications
  • Auditing and assessing compliance in VESMS, High Voltage and Complex Installations
  • Investigating and preparing reports on serious electrical incidents
  • Preparing guidance documentation for education and compliance
  • Responding to complaints from industry and the general public in relation to potential breaches of the Act, pursuant regulations, Australian Standards or implications for electrical safety.
  • Participating in the ‘on call' roster to respond to and investigate electrical incidents
  • Writing briefs of evidence and working closely with the solicitors to prepare for and assist with prosecutions.


To be considered for this role you will be:

To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified electrician with a broad range of electrical installation experience such as heavy industry, high voltage or complex electrical installations. Your strong influencing skills will aid you to take a stand against unethical intentions and conflicts of interest. In addition, you will use your relationship building skills to deliver authoritative advice whilst still maintaining positive working relationships with stakeholders.

You are an independent operator, who is highly self-motivated to manage and prioritise your own workload, whilst still enjoying working effectively as part of a team of technical specialists.  You will also have:

  • A sound  knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and standards,
  • Personal resilience to attend serious injury and fatality incident scenes.
  • The ability to work autonomously out in the field and take direction as required
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills
  • A desire to learn and grow within the organisation to develop regulatory skills


 It would be advantageous if you have

  • Auditing experience and skills
  • HV qualifications and experience
  • Electrical Inspectors License
