About the Department
The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Division
The Assurance, Knowledge and Executive Services division provides expert advice and support to the department through a range of portfolio, advisory and assurance services. The division also provides support to the department's executives and ministers and the Office of the Secretary (OOS) and manages all Cabinet and Parliament processes.
This position is in the Ministerial and Portfolio Services (MaPS) team which coordinates the department's delivery of high quality, accurate and timely advice to our ministers and the Secretary and assists each of our ministers with the efficient functioning of their office as it relates to the department. MaPS is part of the Executive and Ministerial Services branch which also includes the Cabinet and Parliament team and the Freedom of Information team.
About the Role
The primary role of the Departmental Liaison Officer (DLO) is to facilitate effective and timely communication between our ministerial offices, the Office of the Secretary (OOS), and the department. The DLO provides support to departmental colleagues to improve the quality and timeliness of services to ministerial offices and the OOS, as well as support to our ministers and their chiefs of staff on matters related to the efficient functioning of the relationship between their offices and the department. The DLO leads the work and supervises the performance of team members in Departmental Liaison Assistants and Departmental Liaison Support roles as required.
Attributes
The ideal candidate is adaptable and collaborative, manages changes in priorities and provides excellent customer and team support. They should have strong leadership skills and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, develop and organise a high performing team to deliver service outcomes. They should be comfortable working within established business processes, identifying and resolving issues as they arise and escalating as required. Effective stakeholder management and customer focus are crucial, ensuring work adds value and meets needs.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
This role requires previous experience in leading an administrative support and customer focused service function within a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
Experience in a government department or agency or similar context and experience working with ministerial offices and briefings and correspondence processes is desirable.
