The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system. The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 300 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.

Position Details

Senior Solicitor, Proceeds of Crime

The OPP is looking for lawyers with litigation experience to join a dynamic Proceeds of Crime litigation team that is experiencing expansion. You will be exposed to exciting case work focussed on the recovery of proceeds of crime in the County and Supreme Courts, and will have the opportunity to undertake appearance work on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions. This area of law which continues to evolve in the courts, includes conviction-based confiscation litigation and unexplained wealth litigation which are prepared similarly to common law cases. The role also provides an opportunity to work closely with key stakeholders including Victoria Police, the Department of Justice and the Director of Public Prosecutions. This role would be well suited to lawyers working in litigation based or commercial roles.
