Position Details

About the role: 

The Consultant, WHS role sits within the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) team in the Occupational Health Safety and Wellbeing Unit (OHSWU). The OHSWU has responsibility for the development of strategic direction, policy and procedures to support a systematic and consistent approach to the management of employee health, safety and wellbeing aligned with legislative compliance, best practice and standards.

The WHS team works to ensure a safe work environment which supports the physical and mental wellbeing of departmental staff. A key focus is the identification and control of operational health and safety hazards and risks and supporting the implementation of systems and processes to reduce the risk of injury or illness in department workplaces

About you:

  • A qualification in occupational health and safety is desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, relevant legislation, regulations and standards would be expected.
  • Experience in complex work health and occupational health and safety matters would also be advantageous for this role. 

Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical advice and support to department divisions and statutory entities on matters in relation to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004).
  • Contribute to the development, review and implementation of the departments health and safety management system (policies, procedures, guides).
  • Assist in the facilitation of risk assessments and workshops to identify, assess and control health and safety hazards to reduce the risk of injury or illness
  • Contribute to regular audits, inspections and investigations to monitor the effectiveness of systems in protecting employee health and safety.
