Complaints and Projects Officer

Parliamentary Workplace Standards and Integrity Commission

  • VPS4 - $97,955 – $111,142 plus superannuation
  • Fixed‑term opportunity until 30 June 2028, Full time (part‑time or flexible hours considered)

The Parliamentary Workplace Standards and Integrity Commission (the Commission) supports the integrity of the Victorian Parliament and promotes a respectful and safe parliamentary workplace. Established under the Parliamentary Workplace Standards and Integrity Act 2024 (Vic), we handle reports of parliamentary misconduct and provide guidance, education and training to uphold high standards across the Parliament.

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled complaints officer to draw on their diverse skills and make a significant contribution to the integrity of the Victorian Parliament. Alongside a small, collaborative team, you'll work to maintain public confidence in the institution of parliament, and promote a respectful and safe parliamentary workplace.

About the role

As a Complaints and Projects Officer, you will support the Commission's referral and complaint handling function and contribute to projects across the agency. Your primary focus will be assessing and managing referrals relating to alleged parliamentary misconduct by Members of Parliament, Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries, in line with the Commission's legislation and remit.

Key tasks:

  • Receive and manage referrals: liaise with complainants, clarify jurisdiction, and set clear expectations about what the Commission can and cannot handle.
  • Assess referrals and prepare recommendations: analyse matters against the legislative framework and provide clear, impartial advice to enable decision‑making.
  • Provide cross‑functional support: assist with investigations, prepare correspondence, briefs and reports, and contribute to policy, public engagement, communications and business operations.

About you

You are a skilled communicator who can navigate complex, sensitive matters with professionalism, integrity and a trauma‑informed approach. You bring strong analytical and writing skills, sound judgment and a commitment to procedural fairness and a safe, respectful parliamentary workplace.

  • Strong people skills: You can build rapport quickly, communicate with empathy, and handle difficult conversations with professionalism and respect.
  • Clear thinker and problem solver: You're able to break down complex issues, weigh up information objectively and apply rules or legislation to reach fair, well‑reasoned conclusions.
  • Skilled writer: You express complex ideas clearly and concisely, tailoring your writing to different audiences from formal advice and reports to accessible public‑facing information.

Desirable experience in complaint handling/case management (preferably in integrity or regulatory contexts), experience supporting investigations, expertise in policy/procedure writing, and relevant qualifications (e.g., law, legal studies, government investigations).

Why join us?

We offer flexible work arrangements, including a hybrid model with core in‑person days on Tuesdays and Thursdays at our office near the heritage‑listed Parliament House, with the option to work from home on other days.

Your wellbeing matters to us. As an organisation with a sharp focus on workplace standards, we work hard to support our people and promote wellbeing across our small team.

We are committed to your professional development and training, and we provide learning and development opportunities throughout the year in line with your career goals. Because we are a small team, we strongly encourage our people to broaden their skills and provide supportive opportunities to learn about different functions across the team.

Most importantly, you'll be part of meaningful and interesting work that supports parliamentary integrity. Everything we do is grounded in the principles of integrity, independence, effectiveness, accountability, fairness, transparency, and respect and safety.
