About PROV Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) is the archives of the State Government of Victoria. We hold around 100kms of hard copy records and 600,000 digital records dating from 1836 right up to the present day. Our impressive collection includes records of immigration and shipping, criminal trials and prisons, premiers and governors, royal commissions, boards of inquiry, wills and probates and much more. These records hold stories of the key events and decisions that have shaped the history of the State of Victoria. Established under the Public Records Act 1973 our objectives are to: • issue and advise on standards regulating the creation, maintenance and security of public records • preserve public records of permanent value • ensure that the archives are accessible

Position Details

About the role

The Manager, Community Engagement is responsible for the management of Access Services' public facing programs. These include PROV's public reading room services in North Melbourne and Ballarat, copying services, the Koorie Records Unit and publication of our annual Provenance journal.

This role is also responsible for building relationships across a diverse range of communities with a view to increasing knowledge and usage of the PROV collection.

The incumbent will require a wide breadth of knowledge and experience to capture the diversity of the role.

In addition, this team is undergoing change, including changes to reporting relationships and work processes. This role is required to lead and support engaged team members throughout this process.

Our hybrid working model requires attendance in the office at least 2 days per week, which includes one of our anchor days (Tuesday and Thursday).  This role is based at our North Melbourne office, however also requires regular attendance at our Ballarat location.

 

About you

As our ideal candidate you will:

  • An understanding of the nuances of the public sector environment
  • The ability to build in depth knowledge of our collection
  • Experience in managing customer service programs
  • Knowledge of First Peoples history in Victoria is desirable
