The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is searching for exceptional individuals to join our team as Project Firefighter – Rappels. Get ready to showcase your expertise in fire management activities across Victoria's stunning National Parks, State Forests and Protected Public Land. But that's not all – our Rappel Crew members perform extraordinary, specialised roles in remote locations, adding an exhilarating twist to their work.

Imagine rappelling down ropes from a hovering helicopter, descending through towering tree canopies, from heights of up to 100 metres. As part of our Forest Fire Management crews, you'll embark on daring missions that require a unique skill set and unwavering dedication. Participate in bushfire preparedness, suppression and planned burning operations, shaping the future of our precious landscapes.

As a Rappel Crew member, you'll spend most of your time outdoors, engaging in road and culvert maintenance, tree felling and clearing, brush cutting, raking, slashing, fuel monitoring and evaluation. It's a hands-on role that demands physical fitness, team spirit, sound decision-making abilities and a strong sense of community.

Apply today and embrace the thrill of a lifetime!

Are you up for the challenge? Here's what we're looking for in our Rappel Crew members:

  • Hold a current manual Drivers Licence (Conditions A, I & V not acceptable for employment)
  • Possess at least one year's experience as an accredited Forest Fire Management Victoria General Firefighter or equivalent Wild Land Firefighter experience
  • Maintain a maximum body weight of 95kg (in overalls and boots)
  • Be comfortable working at heights and from helicopters
  • Be comfortable working and camping in extremely remote locations
  • Be prepared to be deployed across Victoria for extended periods of time
  • Be able to implicitly follow verbal and written instructions and hand signals
  • Successfully complete initial specialist rappel training and ongoing training throughout the season

These fixed-term positions are available for a minimum of 26 weeks, typically spanning November to April. Join our Ovens or Heyfield locations and unlock the potential for personal and professional growth.
