Position Details

About the role:
This position is based in the Policy and Legislation Division of the Capability Department. The Policy and Legislation Division (PLD) manages all law reform processes on behalf of Victoria Police to ensure that a consistent and considered organisational position is presented on new or proposed legislative changes. PLD also Supporting frontline employees by developing and providing clear and useable policies, procedures and guidelines.

This position will form part of a small team reporting directly to the Director, Policy and Legislation Division, Capability Department. You will have responsibility for key law and policy reform projects on behalf of Victoria Police. This will inlcude functions such as: 

  • Managing and driving internal requests for legislative change.
  • Preparing responses to papers prepared by external agencies and bodies proposing legislative or policy change.
  • Co-ordinating responses to Cabinet submissions and parliamentary inquiries.
  • Preparing briefings to Executive Management level.
  • Liaising with policy owners to assist with the implementation of legislative changes across the organisation.
  • Pro-active internal and external stakeholder engagement.

In addition to the above, some other duties will include:

  • Contributing effectively as a senior member of the Division to ensure that its work aligns with the strategic direction of the Department and the broader organisation.
  • Managing and coordinating responses to legislative and policy change proposals and Cabinet submissions within tight timelines.
  • Identifying, monitoring and assessing legislative and policy trends and changes, which may impact on the strategic direction of the organisation.
  • Preparing written reports and presentations to deliver informed advice and options to Executive Management.
  • Contributing to strategic corporate projects, devising innovative solutions to meet the future direction of the organisation.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively manage stakeholder issues.
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills with the proven ability to interpret and present information and the ability to identify potential risks.
  • Experience in the development of complex corporate level policies, procedures and guideline.
  • Ability to provide policy advice to government, senior levels of the organisation and key external stakeholders.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Project management experience in all elements of a project lifecycle.
