Manager Research

Reporting to the Director Research and Evaluation, as the Manager of Research you will lead and oversee the establishment and implementation of Respect Victoria's Research Agenda and manage a small team to deliver research and translate the findings so that they can be practically applied to inform policy and program directions for the primary prevention of family violence and all forms of violence Against women. This is critical to Respect Victoria's strategic priorities and legislative remit and working towards a future free from violence. Applicants with academic, social or market research expertise and experience in managing research teams within research agencies/organisations or government would be highly suited for this role.

You will

  • Lead and manage the delivery of Respect Victoria's Research Agenda and Alliance including identifying research priorities and developing new research projects to inform policy, advocacy, and program design for the primary prevention of all forms of family violence and violence against women, within timelines and budget
  • Work collaboratively with others to facilitate, design, initiate and manage the commissioning of new research projects and capacity building initiatives.
  • Supervise a small research team to deliver Respect Victoria's research, translation and activation work, and liaise closely with key government partners to support research that informs the Free from Violence Strategy.
  • Provide authoritative advice, reasoned recommendations and innovative solutions to complex and sensitive issues based on comprehensive research and the evidence
  • Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends using robust evidence, and prepare and present papers and reports at an advanced, professional level as directed
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key external and internal stakeholders, and promote the uptake of the emerging research and evaluation evidence-base
  • Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and Respect Victoria's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures

Respect Victoria

Was established as a Statutory Authority under the Prevention of Family Violence Act 2018. Respect Victoria will deliver on the commitments legislated in the Act and the objectives outlined in Free from Violence: Victoria's strategy to prevent family violence and all forms of violence against women. Respect Victoria is focused on the prevention of all forms of family violence for all Victorians

We are looking for an individual with

  • Experience building team commitment by leading, coaching and supporting team members, and demonstrating personal conviction; translates organisational strategy into meaningful long-term plans and objectives for their own team, motivates others to deliver against goals.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in a range of research methodologies including evidence synthesis, qualitative, quantitative, survey design, communicates complex research methodologies, able to undertake analysis to deliver key findings and recommendations, keeps up to date with a broad range of contemporary issues; scans for links and potential implications for research options or partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in procurement and contract management of research and/or consultancy services, managing multiple research projects with diverse research providers, and ensuring high quality research outputs with competing timeframes and within budget parameters.
  • Strategic planning skills who thinks at the big picture level; entertains wide-ranging possibilities in developing a vision for the future; works across a number of time frames; translates strategic direction into day-to-day activities.
